A Roanoke Rapids man faces numerous charges related to a shooting and kidnapping which occurred early Saturday morning in the area of Oak and Shell streets.

Interim Roanoke Rapids police Chief Gorton Williams said the crimes were the result of a dispute. He declined to elaborate.

The male shooting victim is in stable condition.

When police arrived around 5 a.m. they discovered the shooting victim and learned a woman had been kidnapped from the scene.

Williams said Traver Turner, 30, was identified as the person police wanted. He said Turner and both victims were acquainted but declined to go into specifics.

Officers found Turner and the kidnapping victim in the area of Lewis Street.

"I want to commend the officers for conducting a thorough investigation and apprehending the suspect," Williams said.   

Turner, who was jailed without the opportunity for bond, faces the following charges:

Attempted murder 

Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury

First-degree kidnapping

Felonious restraint

Three counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling/moving vehicle

Three counts of discharging a firearm from an enclosure to incite fear 

Felony assault with physical injury on law enforcement

Three counts of resisting a public officer

Injury to personal property

Turner has a June 25 court date.
