Halifax County Schools recently received state and federal flag donations from North Carolina Representative Michael Wray and United States Senator Thom Tillis.

Wray and Trey Lewis, regional representative for Tillis, presented the flags to Halifax County Schools Superintendent Eric Cunningham at the school district headquarters.

"We are pleased to donate these flags to Halifax County Schools," said Wray. "We hope that they will serve as a reminder to students, educators, and the community of the values that our country stands for, including freedom and equality."

In a statement Tillis said, “As the former PTA president of my daughter’s public high school, I understand the importance of providing educational opportunities for all students. “I want to thank Halifax County Schools for the important work they do for our students, and I am proud to present this flag flown above the U.S. Capitol to them.”

The flags will be flown at Halifax County Schools Central Services as a constant reminder of the values and principles they represent, Cunningham said. "We are honored to receive these flags from Representative Wray and Senator Tillis. We believe they will be a powerful symbol of unity and patriotism for our students and educators."

The donation of the flags is part of a larger initiative by Wray and Tillis to support education and civic engagement in communities across North Carolina. "We are committed to supporting education and civic engagement in our state," said Wray. "We believe these values are essential to building a stronger, more united North Carolina."
