The Ida M. Ivey Foundation will sponsor a Community Fun Day on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Roanoke Rapids.
The event, which is coordinated locally by Phyllis Burgess, will include live music, games, bounce house, free food and school supplies for K-12 for the first 100 school-age students. Paula Ivey Booth of Odenton, Maryland secured book bags and school supplies from donations from family, friends and co-workers. Burgess and Booth coordinated a similar event in 2019.
Ivey was a life-long resident of Roanoke Rapids and raised her eight children in the Hodgestown Community. She passed away in 2003.
The foundation was created in her honor as a means to provide support to children and families in need.
The foundation has previously provided Christmas gifts and food to hundreds of local families in 2020 and 2022.
Grants have also been issued to the Fresh Air Fund in New York City which provides free summer camp for underserved communities in the city.
Ivey was an advocate for education and personal responsibility among her children and grandchildren. Her legacy includes raising eight productive citizens and 14 college graduates amongst her 18 grandchildren.
