A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested and charged Friday night for cocaine possession and several driving infractions, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Captain Scott Hall said Deputy D. Bybee stopped a man later identified as Deborris Ashe, 39, on a traffic offense in the South Rosemary area shortly before 9 p.m.

Ashe, Hall said, was driving on a suspended license and was in possession of cocaine.

He faces charges of driving while license revoked, possession of cocaine, fictitious registration and no liability insurance.

He was jailed without the opportunity for bond due to already being out of custody on pending charges.

For Friday night’s counts he received an October 26 court date and he has a November 15 court date for similar driving offenses, according to the state court calendar.
