The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain Patrick Jacobs:

On October 18 29-year-old Deshy Gatling of Ahoskie pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed robbery. 

He was sentenced in superior court pursuant to his guilty plea which put him behind bars for a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 25 years.

He was convicted in the armed robbery and second-degree shooting death of Edward Phipps, a former resident of Littleton. The crime occurred shortly before 11:45 on the evening of September 22, 2017 in the Arrowhead Mobile Home Park located in the Woodland area.

Gatling was initially charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, six counts of second-degree kidnapping, one count injury personal property, one count robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count first-degree burglary, and one count larceny after breaking and entering. 

Pursuant to his plea agreement he was sentenced for second-degree murder and armed robbery.

Drug arrest

On October 16 Deputy J. Johnson arrested 45-year-old Demetrick Clark of Garysburg. 

He was charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, and resisting a public officer. 

He received a $7,500 secured bond on these charges. 

The charges stem from Johnson attempting to arrest Clark for unrelated outstanding orders for arrest and warrants. 

He was served two outstanding orders for arrest for failure to appear and served an outstanding warrant for breaking and entering to injure/terrorize, larceny from a person, and assault and battery. 

He received a $7,500 secured bond on these warrants and was scheduled to appear in district court today.
