The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Captain Scott Hall:

Corporal D. Harrison was patrolling the Roanoke Rapids area of Highway 158 Sunday when he witnessed a passing violation.

He initiated a traffic stop and encountered the driver, Kayla Brown, 22 of Charlotte.

A search of the vehicle yielded 8.4 grams of mushrooms.

Brown was arrested and taken before a magistrate. She was charged with unsafe passing and possession of a schedule I controlled substance.

She received a $2,500 bond and November 30 court date.

On Saturday deputies and officers with the Weldon Police Department conducted a driver’s license checking station on Country Club Road and College Drive.

Deputy J. Snider encountered Megan Lynn Edmondson, 36, of Roanoke Rapids. Snider learned Edmondson had a suspended driver’s license.

As Edmondson stepped out of the vehicle, Snider noticed an open container of alcohol between the seats. Further investigation led to a search of the vehicle where Snider located a gram of crack cocaine in Edmondson’s cigarette holder as well as drug paraphernalia within the vehicle.

Snider arrested and charged Edmondson with felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked.

She received a $5,000 secured bond and November 30 court date.
