An Oak City woman died this morning in a single-vehicle crash in the Hobgood area, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Trooper J.T. Keeter said Tammy Whitfield, 48, was traveling south on Highway 903 near the Martin County line around 11:30.

She ran off the roadway to the right and overcorrected. The vehicle she was driving collided with a ditch and overturned.

Whitfield succumbed to the injuries she sustained, Keeter said.
