The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported that on Friday around 6:30 p.m. Officer L. Balmer responded to a motor vehicle collision at Hinson and West Tenth streets.

The officer learned that Tony Lee Holt, 47, of Roanoke Rapids failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of another vehicle.

Chief Shane Guyant said Balmer detected the odor of alcohol on Holt, who consented to standardized field sobriety tests conducted by Master Officer D. Norfleet.

Holt displayed numerous signs of impairment and was administered a breath test in which he registered a .24 — three times the state’s legal limit.

Holt was charged with DWI and received a January 26 court date.

He was released to a responsible sober party.
