A Roanoke Rapids man is wanted for harboring two people facing charges in a shooting death originally reported as a suicide.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant said Jaylen Andre Woolfolk, 24, allowed Demote Johnson and Patrick Banks to hide in his Georgia Avenue residence for a few days.

Detective N. Bankert obtained warrants for his arrest today. Woolfolk is believed to frequent areas of Roanoke Rapids and is acquainted with Johnson and Banks, Guyant said.

The pair were apprehended at Woolfolk’s residence on Saturday. Woolfolk was not at the residence at the time.

Johnson is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend Brittany Smith and Banks faces accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice coun in the November case which was originally reported as a suicide.

Johnson and Banks remain in custody in the Halifax County Detention Center as of this report.

Originally jailed without the opportunity for bond, Johnson now has a $525,000 secured bond and Banks a $75,000 secured bond, according to detention center records. Both men are scheduled for January 25 district court dates after initial appearances Tuesday.
