Roanoke Rapids police report on Sunday a woman was charged with possession of cocaine after a lottery ticket containing the drug fell out of her shirt.

Interim Chief Bobby Martin said Sergeant D. Hundley responded to Walgreens around 9:15 p.m. after receiving a report of women attempting to conceal merchandise.

Hundley and Officer C. Hagbourne encountered the women and during a check a folded lottery ticket fell out of one of the alleged suspects’ shirt.

The woman, Megan Edmondson, 32, reportedly told the officers she didn’t know what was in the ticket but then reportedly said it was cocaine.

Hundley recovered the ticket and during a search of the other woman an unopened container of Burt’s Bees lip balm was found.

Hundley charged Edmondson with possession of schedule II. She received a $2,500 bond and was released with a March 6 court date.

The other woman was asked not to return to the store.
