A new but familiar voice will be spinning sounds of Carolinas beach music Friday as Andy Lucy takes the microphone for the Friday Night Beach Blast.
“I’m honored to continue this beloved show and thrilled to be on the air where I grew up listening to beach music,” Lucy said. “Beach Music has been the soundtrack of so many lives and Johnny Draper set the bar high and I want to continue that tradition for many years to come.”
Draper died on June 5 and hosted the Friday Night Beach Blast on area stations since the late 1980’s. He was inducted into the Carolina DJ Beach Music Hall of Fame in 2022.
Lucy is the co-founder of Flip Flop Live and its website keeps listeners abreast of the latest news and events happening in the genre. “I remain dedicated to promoting the industry and am proud to have received the Carolina Beach Music Academy’s Michael Branch Award for promotion of industry (in) 2019, 2022, and 2023, along with numerous nominations for Radio DJ of the Year.”
Lucy is also an executive board member of the CBMA.
Friday Beach Blast will air from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. locally on WTRG 97.9, WDLZ 98.3 in Murfreesboro, and WWDW 107.7 in South Hill as well as streaming online at https://www.magic979wtrg.com/
