An excessive heat warning has been issued for a portion of the northeast Piedmont, northern Coastal Plain, and northern Sandhills from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

A heat advisory remains in effect elsewhere in central North Carolina.

Dangerous heat is expected today as heat indices are forecast to range from 105 to around 110 degrees across central North Carolina.

“This level of heat can affect anyone, so stay alert for signs of heat-related illnesses and take action immediately,” the National Weather Service Raleigh bureau said.

Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.

Temperatures will be slow to fall below 80 degrees tonight, especially in urban areas.
