A 52-year-old Gaston man has been charged in a shooting this morning which left two adult victims with non-life threatening injuries.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant said investigation showed the apparent motive appears to be tied to an argument between Calvin Louis Robinson and the two victims, who were shot in what he described as non-vital areas. One victim was treated and released at ECU North while the other was sent to Greenville but was scheduled to be released.

Police received a call around 11:30 a.m. about a disturbance in the 700 block of Washington  Street. D-Squad officers learned two people were shot.

Guyant said the officers responded in seconds after receiving the call and secured the scene. Robinson was arrested by Officer B. Holcomb as he was attempting to leave the scene. The weapon was seized from Robinson as evidence.

Detective A. Salmon was called out and continued the investigation.

Neither victims were armed.

Salmon charged Robinson with two counts of assault inflicting serious Injury.and he was jailed without the opportunity for bond. He has a September 26 district court date.

Jenkins,” Captain Harold Phillips said. “Their quick response to the scene was supported by the impeccable work by Halifax 911 Communications dispatchers. Together these officers and dispatchers showed impeccable teamwork, communication, and professionalism during a very stressful encounter.  Well done to all involved."
