The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:
Stolen vehicle
On Tuesday at approximately 9:30 a.m.Deputy J. Velez was in the Scotland Neck area at Highway 258 near Old 125 Road.
Velez noticed a vehicle that matched the description of one reported stolen out of Martin County on December 14.
The plate came back to a different car than was driven by a man identified as Joshua Markell Andrews, 34, of Williamston.
Andrews was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and was also served with an outstanding warrant for larceny of a motor vehicle and an unrelated warrant for probation violation.
He remains in the Halifax County Detention Center with three holds for Martin County with a total bond amount of $20,000 secured and a $5,000 secured bond on Velez’s charge.
He has a January 23 district court date in Halifax County.
Roanoke Rapids search warrant
On Tuesday shortly before 8 a.m. the Special Response Team, Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Division, along with the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of Carver and Luke streets.
Several firearms, one with an altered serial number, were seized.
Detective Sergeant A. Holland determined the firearms were in the possession of two juveniles. The complaint of possession of a firearm with an altered serial number and possession of a handgun by a minor were obtained on the two and they are awaiting a hearing date.
