Vivian Barnes Turner, 80, passed away suddenly on September 17, 2021, in her home in Severn, NC.

Vivian was born July 21, 1941, in Margarettsville, NC, better known to most as “Chitty’s Fork,” to the late Gale Borden and Jesse Tyler Barnes.

She was raised in a large, loving farm family whose Christian faith was strong.

Vivian spent her childhood years playing on the farm with her siblings and friends in the country.  They were a very tight-knit group.

Vivian tried her hand at many things during her lifetime, but her main passion was giving care to others.

She worked for the Pine Forest Rest Home in Potecasi, NC for twenty-eight years.  She enjoyed not only providing care to the residents, but also sharing conversation with them in hopes of brightening their days.

Following her retirement, she moved to her other passion which was her flowers and her yard.  To say the least, she had a green thumb and spent her time growing the prettiest plants, flowers, vegetables, and trees anywhere around.

Vivian also had an eye for design. She could look at any space, inside or out, and designate where a building should sit, or furniture should be placed.  Her visions were respected by friends and family, and she will be truly missed.

In addition to her parents, Vivian was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Barnes of Conway, NC; two sisters, Blannie Britton of Lasker, NC and Millie Britton of Galatia, NC; and sadly, by her two beloved granddaughters, Jenna Kay Holmes of Fredericksburg, VA and Tyler Elaine Britton of Boykins, VA.

Left to cherish her memory are a loving husband of over fifty-one years, Charlie Buck Turner of Severn, NC; four children, Terri Godsey (Ronnie) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Susan Barber (Butch) of Rodanthe, NC; Kevin Lee (Joanne) of Conway, NC; Amy Turner Barnes (Jason) of Boykins, VA.

Also, two sisters Faye Davis (Clifton) of Conway, NC and Elaine Davis (George) of Rich Square, NC.

Vivian also had a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews too numerous to mention in this space who all held a special place in her heart.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Services in Jackson, NC where there will also be a celebration of life service on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with interment immediately following at the Severn Cemetery in Severn, NC.  The Reverend Mark Corbett is presiding.  The Askew Funeral Service in Jackson is assisting the family with their arrangements.
