Mary Dawson Woodruff, 98, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away peacefully Friday, November 8, 2019 in Raleigh, NC.


Mrs. Woodruff was born in Kansas, and moved to Roanoke Rapids in 1947. She was very active in a number of community organizations. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was the church Secretary for many years during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

In 2013 she moved to Abbotswood retirement home in Raleigh, where she was loved by the staff and residents.

A longtime resident of Roanoke Rapids, NC, she was the daughter of the late Fred W. Dawson and Margaret Hedrick Dawson, also preceding her in death was her loving husband Harvey W. Woodruff.

Surviving Mrs. Woodruff is her son Wes Woodruff, and his wife Kathleen of Ponte Vedra, FL and her daughter Alison Smith of Raleigh, NC. Two grandchildren, Jordan Smith and Aaron Smith; four step grandchildren Paul Fogel, Wayne Fogel, Ann Hobbs, and Amy Elwood.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 4, 2019 in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Joseph Casteel officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
