Veronica Mary Hackenburg left this world to join her heavenly father on June 2, 2021

“Ronnie” was born on June 25, 1931 to John Francis Tobin & Elizabeth Bobulis Tobin in Elizabeth, NJ.   

She was a Navy Veteran and served during the Korean War. She served as an assistant to her division’s chaplain.  She was active in scouting with all three of her children along with being a member of the Wharton Fire Department Women's Auxiliary in Wharton, New Jersey. She raised three amazing children and instilled in them Christian values and a strong work ethic.

She worked as an assistant zoning officer for  Blairstown Township, New Jersey, and was also a long time Dispatcher for Blairstown’s Fire, Police & Rescue Squads. 

She was a member of the Roanoke Rapids First Presbyterian Church for many years and had many friends in Roanoke Rapids. She also made sure the sanitation workers and postal workers were given water and Pop Tarts every week.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, JB Berberich.

She is survived by her children Robert Hackenburg (Donna), her daughter, Deborah Ann Berberich (John), and Gary Hackenburg (Denise). She had seven grandchildren, Ariana Hackenburg, Angela Hackenburg, Francis Hackenburg ,Adam Appolonio and his wife, Christina, Justin Berberich and Jacob Hackenburg.She had one great grandchild. Many Thanks to Debbie Vaughan and her staff who took wonderful care of Mom in her final year.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday June 19, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Roanoke Rapids, 15 East Fifth Street.
