The Roanoke Rapids High School Varsity Yellow Jackets Baseball team picked up a season opening win at Granville Central by a score of 8-7 on Tuesday night.

Braxton Coggins picked up the win on the mound for the Jackets in relief of starting pitcher AJ Strickland.

Leading Hitters for Roanoke Rapids were Caleb Elias with 3 hits and 1 RBI, Austin Geary with 2 hits and 1 RBI, Jon Lewis Temple with 1 hit and 3 RBI, and Matthew MacNichol with 1 hit and 2 RBI.

Jackets head coach Mark Snead stated, "This was a good win to open the season for our club.  We trailed early but had solid pitching throughout the night that kept us in the game.  We finally came alive offensively later in the game and put enough runs on the board.  I am really proud of how our team didn't give up and fought for the win against a good ball team."

The next game for the Yellow Jackets will be Friday night when they host Granville Central at Doyle Field.  Game time is set for 6pm.
