Roanoke Rapids High school JV softball team with Madison Jones in the pitcing circle shut down Rocky Mount Friday night to open their season at Halifax Academy season opener tournament at Chockeyotte Park.

Throwing a complete game, Jones shutout and lead Roanoke Rapids Junior Varsity Yellow Jackets to a 6-0 victory.

The JV Jackets secured the victory thanks to six runs in the sixth inning.

Jackets offense was led by Jones, Lydia Carroll, Maecy Garriss, and Harley Powers, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Garriss, Carroll, Jones, Kaylee Collier, Shandi Byrum, and Alex Richardson each collected one hit.

Jones surrendered zero runs on two hits over seven innings, striking out seven. The JV Lady Jackets didn't commit a single error and Carroll made the most plays with seven.
