The relative of a man charged Thursday in a June 22 murder in Enfield has been charged with accessory after the fact.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp stated earlier today investigators were intent on charging anyone who stands in the way of the investigation into the shooting death of Jarshamel Cambridge. “The sheriff's office means business. We take all of our cases serious,” he said this afternoon. “This victim is someone's family member, someone's child, even someone's grandchild.”

Cambridge's grandfather is a minister in Enfield, the sheriff said.

Charged today was a relative of Taphil Yancey — 56-year-old William Yancey, who Tripp said gave false information on his relative's whereabouts. The false information, the sheriff said, led to a delay in charging Taphil Yancey.

William Yancey was jailed on $250,000 bond and awaits a July 22 court date.

He becomes the second person to face obstruction-related counts in the murder after Tamika Arrington was charged as an accessory in the case.

Arrington is the girlfriend of Dexter Taylor, who remains on the lam.
