Woman charged in morning stabbing

A Weldon woman was arrested this morning in a stabbing in which her boyfriend was transported to a hospital outside of the area for the injuries he sustained.

Detective Obert Wiltsie of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office charged Markarita Johnson, 29, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Law enforcement was called to the scene on Elm Street shortly before 7 this morning.

The victim was stabbed several times with a steak knife. Wiltsie noted stab wounds to the arms and chest. The stabbing was the result of a domestic dispute, Wiltsie said.

Johnson was also charged by Weldon police for resisting arrest and simple affray for a fight that occurred in downtown Weldon, Wiltsie said.

She was jailed on a total $101,000 bond for the county and town charges. She has an October 21 court date.
