The Tryon Palace Fife and Drum Corps will kick-off events, leading a 10 a.m. parade down King Street, and will offer concerts that Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Market Square will be the focal point of the event with a Revolutionary War skirmish taking place at 2 p.m. on both days.
Periodically, visitors can experience infantry drill and musket firing demonstrations, artillery firing demonstrations and various living history demonstrations in the camps. Presentations on the American Revolution with Halifax connections will be shared in the auditorium and visitor center at 1 p.m. both days.
Saturday’s Revolutionary War Edged Weapons in North Carolina, by Hank Brown, and Sunday’s The Case of Michael Quinn, by Chris Grimes, will give life to the events and people recorded on history’s pages. Tours of historic buildings, historic crafts and living history demonstrations will be shared.
Weaving, sewing, woodworking, camp fire cooking necessary for survival, and printing press skills, toys and games necessary for enrichment, all will be shown.
Food will be available to purchase also. The turbulence and triumphs of the first 85 years of Halifax history are recalled in the site’s preservation, whose buildings date from about 1760 to the 1830s.
The site preserves and interprets the history of Halifax, where North Carolina led the nation in gaining independence from Great Britain.
