Belmont student wins state poster contest

Gabrielle Aquino, a 10-year-old fifth-grade student at Belmont Elementary School won the state poster contest expressing her views of What’s Super About Public Schools.

The North Carolina School Boards Association held the contest in October.

Elementary schools throughout the state participated in this contest, but Aquino brought home the victory for Belmont and won the contest.

She is an honor student whose hobbies include art and reading. Art and science are her favorite subjects.

Her poster was displayed during the 2015 NCSBA Annual Conference held in Greensboro November 16-18.

She will be honored at the December Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools District board of education meeting.

She is pictured with her grandmother and father, school board member Mike Salanik, interim Superintendent John Parker and board chair Jay Carlilse.
