Last January, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office joined forces with the Roanoke Rapids and Weldon police departments to form the City County Drug Task Force.

The law enforcement agencies working together will continue to fight the drug problems in Halifax County.

Currently there are seven agents assigned to the task force, four from the sheriff’s office, two from Roanoke Rapids and one from Weldon.

The City County Drug Task Force has worked with other local departments, state and federal agencies.

During 2015 the task force arrested 279 offenders which included 736 charges being obtained.

Due to the support of citizens and continued investigations by agents, 55 search warrants were executed and the following seizures were made:

9,538 grams of marijuana (over 21 pounds), street value $47,690

381.5 grams of cocaine (over 13 ounces), street value $22,860

35 grams of raw heroin, street value $5,250

377 bindles of heroin (over 7 ½ bricks), street value $3,770

6,223.5 dosage units of controlled pills

3.5 grams of LSD

.42 grams of Meth

Working along with the federal agencies which include the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, United States Department of Homeland Security, United States Marshal Service, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina agents have worked more than 391 federal hours.

The task force conducted several saturated patrols, traffic checking stations, buy-bust operations, several undercover campaigns, I-95 interdictions, medicine drops, and located several wanted persons on outstanding governor’s warrants and federal indictments.

The State Bureau of Investigation, North Carolina National Guard, state Highway Patrol, state Division of Adult Probation and Parole and the North Carolina Department of Revenue Unauthorized Substance Tax are instrumental in the agents' drug investigations.

Agents of the task force always encourage citizens to call Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 to report any drug activity in the community or log onto www.halifaxsheriff.com and click on submit a tip.
