Inclement weather today has forced the closure of the following Halifax Regional clinics:

Roanoke Clinic

Physician’s billing office

Roanoke Valley Internal Medicine

Halifax Regional Cardiology

Halifax Regional Wound Care Center

Halifax Works

Meanwhile today, David Harvey, President of the Halifax County Branch of the NAACP, announced the Annual Emancipation Proclamation Banquet scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for January 29 at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Mystique Multi-Venue Complex on Highway 125 outside Roanoke Rapids.

The latest report from the National Weather Service says the winter storm warning remains in effect through 6 p.m. Saturday.

Snow accumulation of up to 2 inches along with around one-quarter of an inch of ice with locally heavier amounts are possible.

Dominion Power reported in a statement by this evening the company plans to have more than 4,000 personnel in its entire service area ready to restore power and will continually review and adjust as needed, based on the storm’s impact.

Some of those personnel will come from non-impacted neighboring utilities.

This storm is expected to create varying conditions across the state and access to trouble locations will be very difficult. “Our major concern is tree damage caused by high winds and heavy, wet snow. We have contacted customers who have medical conditions noted on their accounts so that they can make alternate arrangements if needed, and ask that all customers make a plan for the possibility of an extended outage. Communicate with family or friends ahead of time before road conditions deteriorate. Be sure you have an emergency kit.”

The company stated, as with all outage situations, it will give high priority to restoring service to critical public facilities such as hospitals, fire and police stations and water treatment facilities.

If you lose power, be sure to report it right away to help with an efficient restoration.

The quickest and easiest way is to report it on dom.com using your mobile device. You can also call 866-DOM-HELP.

The outage map is compatible with most devices and is a good resource to track restoration—it enables customers to track their outage after they’ve reported it.
