A Northampton County man will face charges after colliding into 51 Sycamore in Weldon Monday afternoon.

Weldon deputy police chief James Avens said the department is still trying to determine whether a medical condition or possible drug use played a part in Nicole Beaulieu Jr., 35, crashing into the building.

Avens said Beaulieu, who is stable condition at Vidant in Greenville, faces charges of careless and reckless driving, exceeding the posted speed limit, driving left of center and damage to real property.

Beaulieu was wearing his seatbelt and the airbag in his Kia deployed during the crash.

The estimated speed at the time of the crash was between 60- to 65-miles per hour.

The restaurant will re-open its owner said on its Facebook page late Monday night.
