The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets returned home early Saturday morning from an incredible regional swim meet.

When the dust cleared, 5 school records were demolished and 11 racers qualified for the state meet.

The girls 200 Medley Relay team of Katherine King, Addie Nixon, Kristy Price, and Amy Fromal started off the meet with an impressive swim, setting the school record and qualifying for states.

The boys Medley Relay team would build off their accomplishments, as Doug Glasgow, Shaun Fromal, AJ Hoscila, and Hunter Hargrave broke their school record and qualified.

Addie Nixon set a personal best in the 200 IM, as did Hunter Hargrave in the 50 free.  Hargrave qualified for states, swimming to an 11th place finish.

AJ Hoscila dominated his race in the 100 fly, swimming to an impressive 1:03.22 en route to a state qualifying finish.

Kristy Price took 7th in the region as she broke the school record and qualified for states in the 100 free with 59.93.

Colby Allen set a personal best with his 56.93 in the 100 free, moving up several spots from his seed time.

The girls 200 Free relay team of Nixon, King, Amy Fromal, and Price qualifed for states and took down another school record.

The boys 200 Free Relay team of Hargrave, Allen, Hoscila, and Shaun Fromal swam to an in-season best while qualifying for states and pending an investigation- possibly broke the school record.

Doug Glasgow went out to blistering 100 backstroke of 1:03.03, just missing the school record, but qualifying for states.

Addie Nixon qualified for states in the 100 breast, and Amy Fromal swam to an in-season best.

Shaun Fromal qualified for states as he broke the school record in the 100 breast.

The 400 Free Relay teams of Abbey Acree, King, Amy Fromal, and Price, as well as Hargrave, Allen, Hoscila, and Fromal swam to in season bests by over 5 and 7 seconds respectively.  Both 400 Free Relay teams qualified for states.

This is the largest group that Roanoke Rapids has brought to states in several years, and their coach, Patrick Quast was beyond pleased with his teams performance.  Quast noted "It has been a mantra of this team to "go to work" every time they came to the practice.  Whether it has been the weight room, the dryland sets, or the pool, this team pushed itself to the limit every time we got together.

"Come Saturday next week (the state meet), we look to "go to work" once again, as we build on the successes of this regional meet," said coach Quast. Also Coach Quast stated, "I would like to thank all of the parents and swimmers of this year's team, who worked so hard to make this year a success."

The 1A/2A NCHSAA State meet will be at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary, NC on Saturday, February 13th, at 9 am.
