Weldon police are investigating a robbery and pistol whipping which occurred on February 26.

Investigation by Sergeant T.L. Mason shows between 5:30 and 6 that evening the victim, who, according to Lieutenant Chris Davis, was in the area of Ninth and Elm streets selling security equipment, was robbed at gunpoint.

After the victim was removed from the vehicle he was struck several times in the face and head with the weapon.

The alleged suspect, at this point described only as a black male, stole the victim's vehicle and was last seen headed toward South Weldon.

The vehicle was later recovered at Travel World off Highway 903 while the victim returned home and was treated for his injuries at Duke University Medical Center.

Davis said there was no further physical description of the assailant.

If captured the reputed suspect will face charges of larceny of the victim's personal items, common law robbery and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, according to Mason's report.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
