A passenger who was airlifted to Vidant in Greenville is not believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95, Gaston Fire and Rescue reported in a statement. The driver of the pickup was also injured. Names were not immediately available.
Sergeant R.W. Goswick of the highway patrol said this evening the driver of the vehicle was taken by family members to Nash General in Rocky Mount while the passenger was airlifted.
Gaston Fire and Rescue Chief Ed Porter Jr. said in the statement units were dispatched to Interstate 95 in the Pleasant Hill area shortly after 12:45 this afternoon. The single-vehicle crash occurred near the 180 mile marker in the northbound lane of the highway.
The pickup was found lying on the passenger’s side, where the female occupant was trapped in and under the vehicle.
Using hydraulic rescue jacks, the vehicle was stabilized and raised off of the woman. The roof of the vehicle was removed using hydraulic rescue cutters.
The woman was removed from the vehicle and placed in the care of Northampton County paramedics. She was listed in critical condition.
The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed and firefighters remained on scene for approximately an hour.
The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and Gaston Police Department were also on the scene.
