A shooting victim was undergoing surgery as of this report and Weldon police continue their investigation, Deputy Chief James Avens said this morning.

The shooting, in which the victim was shot multiple times, occurred near an establishment Avens declined to immediately disclose.
In a statement Lieutenant Chris Davis said the location was near the corner of Second Street and Washington Avenue.
The victim was attending a private birthday at the establishment, Avens said. The shooting occurred shortly after 1:45 this morning. The victim was shot in the torso and hand and was at first treated locally before being flown to another facility.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
