Weldon investigates Maple St. shooting

Weldon police are investigating a shooting which occurred early Saturday evening.

A statement by the department and an officer on duty this morning confirmed the shooting took place on Maple Street and officers responded shortly after 6:15 p.m.
Officers responded to the area but did not find anyone.
Several people reported hearing the shots. Approximately 20 minutes later officers received a call from the hospital of treatment of a gunshot victim who had a wound to the hand and was treated and released.
An official with the police department authorized to comment was not immediately available as of this report.
