A man who reportedly stole from an older victim who took him in was arrested by Roanoke Rapids police on warrants issued by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday.

Joyner Tim

Timothy Wayne Joyner had been listed as a probation absconder at the time of his arrest around 4:15 p.m. in the 300 block of Madison Street.
Detective B.C. Griffin of the sheriff’s office had taken out warrants for the arrest of Joyner, 24, around the end of December.
Griffin said the warrants served by Roanoke Rapids stem from an investigation in which Joyner reportedly stole $1,800 worth of items from the victim who took him in and gave him a place to live.
Over a period between last August and November Joyner allegedly took tools, electronics, and jewelry from the victim. He reportedly sold some of the items.
His arrest Wednesday came as Roanoke Rapids Lieutenant Perry Parks, Master Officer A. Salmon and Officer Hannah Grimes were patrolling in the Madison Street area and spotted him in a yard, Roanoke Rapids police Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement.
Roanoke Rapids officers were aware of the warrants on Joyner and that he was listed by the state Department of Public Safety as an absconder.
They took him into custody and during a search found him in possession of a spoon and needles.
Griffin said based on his prior experience and dealings with Joyner the motives for a number of crimes he has allegedly committed are most likely to support a drug habit.
Joyner has multiple court dates in Halifax County which extend through the end of the month.
Roanoke Rapids police charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was served with outstanding orders for arrest for probation violations and Griffin’s charges.
Griffin charged Joyner with two counts of larceny, two counts possession of stolen goods, two counts conspiracy and three counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
He was jailed on $35,500 bond on the charges and a $10,000 cash bond for the probation violations.
