Weldon police Chief James Avens confirmed Malcolm Artis will be brought back from Georgia and Dennis Bradley will brought back from Hanover County, Virginia, where he was picked up.

Both men are expected to be transported to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office where they will be booked and court dates assigned, Avens said.

Artis faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling in the shooting death of 1-year-old Jaxson Clay following a drive-by shooting which occurred December 7 in the 700 block of Elm Street. The boy, who would have turned 2 on December 23, died in the early morning hours following the shooting.

Avens has said the drive-by was not random but has thus far declined to discuss motive.

It remains unclear why Artis fled to Georgia following the shooting.

Meanwhile, Avens said Bradley is also expected to be returned to the county Saturday.

Bradley is considered the intended target of a December 12 drive-by shooting  and was wanted by police for reportedly firing back at his reputed assailants.

That shooting occurred on December 12 in the 700 block of Maple Street.

Bradley, 20, was at the residence when shots were fired from a vehicle occupied by Raheem Scott and Khevon Weaver, Chief James Avens said.

Scott surrendered to police the following day at the urging of family members.

Police continue to look for Weaver.
