Captain A.M. Harris said today marked the third time search warrants have been served at the Highway 158 residence of Antwan Smith, 36.

The arrest warrants for simple possession of schedule II, simple possession of schedule III and maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance came after Halifax County Sheriff’s Office D Squad deputies conducted physical surveillance of what Harris described in a statement as a “well known drug house.”

The surveillance occurred during patrols of the residence located in the 2000 block of Highway 158 near the old airport.

Harris said in the statement Sergeant Roy Ball and Corporal M. Bishop have, on several occasions, conducted traffic stops for motor vehicle violations of people leaving the residence. These stops have resulted in several arrests for drug violations which include felony possession of cocaine.

A search warrant granted Agent C.A. Parker led to the seizure of four dosage units of Oxycodone and the four strips of Suboxone hidden in a pillow.

No one was at the residence when agents arrived around 2 p.m.

Harris said Smith tends to frequent the areas of South Rosemary and Lincoln Heights.

In other task force activity today, Harris reported the following:

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., agents executed a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of Highway 903.

Agent D.W. McKeel has been investigating 47-year-old Arthur Lee Bennett Jr. for several months for marijuana sales.

During the execution of the search warrant no items were seized.

McKeel had obtained warrants for the arrest of Bennett for sell marijuana, deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance for a March 8, 2017, matter at Bennett’s residence.

Bennett was arrested and transported to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office where he was served with the warrants.  He received a February 21 court date.

Agents received complaints of drug activity in the area of Flicker Lane in Hollister.

Agent D.J. Epperson identified the residence and conducted surveillance along with other agents of the task force.

He applied for a search warrant which was granted.

During the execution of the search warrant shortly after 8:30 a.m., agents and the Patrol Division of the sheriff’s office seized nine individually wrapped bags of marijuana, a digital scale and a box of plastic sandwich bags.

Epperson arrested and charged Melvin Evans, 33, for possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.

Evans received a January 17 court date and investigation continues.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Smith or those with information on drug activity are encouraged to call Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252 583-4444 or log on to www.halifaxsheriff.com and click on submit a tip.
