The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for all of central North Carolina for tonight and Wednesday.

The NWS said at its latest briefing snowfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible across the north central and northeast piedmont.

The Roanoke Rapids Public Works Department said in a social media post it has fired up its brine plant and will be applying salt brine to streets throughout the day.

The department reminds residents, “If we have to plow snow, don't park on the street. The plows move snow from the middle of the street to the curb. We will clear our streets as quickly as we can.”

The threat of inclement weather has canceled a Roanoke Rapids City Council retreat scheduled for Thursday.

The retreat will be rescheduled for a later date not yet determined.
