Both Bloods and Crips attended the party at AMVETS Post 320, Investigator Gorton Williams said this morning.

On Tuesday Williams charged party organizer Emya Jahne Boothe, 18, with solicit gang activity, Chief Chuck Hasty said in a statement.

She had previously been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor in the case, which reflects children between the ages of 14 and 18 attended the party and drank alcohol and smoked marijuana.

Investigator Obert Wiltsie said this morning some of the children at the party either associated with gang members or were gang members.

Whether the shooting which occurred outside the post on Eighth Street was related to beef between rival gang members is something which continues to be investigated, Williams said.

He described the event as a random party in which a combination of different gang members attended and were invited.

Investigators have stated previously there was an altercation which led to the shooting, in which the victim, described as an innocent bystander, was shot multiple times in the torso.

The victim continues to recover, Williams said.

Boothe was also served a criminal summons for two counts of assault, which were taken out on her by an individual, Hasty said. That assault reportedly occurred occurred Sunday.

She received a $10,000 bond and February 7 court date.

Since the initial investigation began, two additional people have been charged but investigators have yet to charge someone in the shooting.

Williams arrested and charged Donovan Demetree Edwards, 22, of Roanoke Rapids, with possession of firearm by felon and simple affray.

The possession of firearm by felon charge against Edwards reflects he attended the party while allegedly in possession of a weapon.

The simple affray charge was unrelated to the AMVETS party.

Last week police arrested a woman for reportedly taking the victim’s phone from him after he was shot.

Police said it was not clear why Doris Lavenia Bynum, 45, allegedly took the victim’s phone. The Halifax woman was apparently there to pick up her children.
