RRPD roundup: Stolen gun arrest; Glover, Vine street drug busts

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Friday at approximately 11 a.m., investigators O.L.Wiltsie and G.L. Williams arrested Lionel Maurice Martin, 34, of Roanoke Rapids, on warrants for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm.  

The arrest is linked to a case reported on January 18 where police received information a man was trying to sell a stolen firearm at a local business.

One person, Dwayne Leon Cameron, was arrested at the time.

Martin, according to Wiltsie, was the person who reportedly got Cameron to sell the weapon.

Wiltsie said investigators are still looking for the person who initially stole the weapon.

Martin received a $10,000 bond and February 7 court date.

 

On Saturday at approximately 12:30 a.m., Officer S. Blythe responded to a call about a disturbance in the 1800 block of Daniels Street.

Blythe found Donquel Tyjuan Gupton, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, holding a small child in his arms causing a disturbance.  

Gupton ran from the officers, fell down and began squeezing the child.  

Blythe and Officer A. Green got the child away from Gupton, who was arrested and charged with child abuse and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

He received a $1,000 bond and February 16 court date.

Master Officer J. Hardy assisted.

 

On Saturday at approximately 4:45 a.m., Hardy responded to a call about an open 911 line call in the 900 block of Grey Street.

Hardy found Travon Torieke Robinson, 19, of Roanoke Rapids, intoxicated, yelling and screaming.

Robinson refused all attempts to calm down by officers and was arrested and charged with drunk and disruptive and underage consumption.

He received a $400 bond and February 16 court date.

Sergeant M. Moseley assisted.

 

On Saturday at approximately 10:30 a.m., Officer R. Cross conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Roanoke Avenue near Birdsong Street.  

Drug paraphernalia was found on the passenger, Matthew Scott Liverman, 21, of Macon.  

Cross cited Liverman, who was released until his February 29 court date, for possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

On  Saturday at approximately 11:15 p.m., Hardy was on routine patrol in the area of Vine Street when he noticed several vehicles on Taft Street.  

When Hardy drove down Taft Street people began to hide and attempted to leave the area.  

During the investigation of the activity at the dead end of Taft Street officers found narcotics and guns.

Alvin Norwood Jr., 26, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged by Green with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule II, and attempting to destroy evidence.

He received a $60,000 bond and March 3 court date.

Audwin Lamonte Parker Jr., 28, of Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged by Hardy with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule II, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

Parker received a $10,000 bond and February 7 court date.

Lieutenant B. Norton and Blythe assisted.

 

On Sunday at approximately 11:30 a.m., Cross conducted a traffic stop for a violation at highways 158 and 48.  

The driver, Omar Daquan Ponton, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, did not have a driver’s license.

Ponton refused to exit the vehicle and had to be physically removed.  

Ponton was found in possession of narcotics.

Ponton was arrested and charged with no operator’s license, possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.

He received a $2,000 bond and February 7 court date.

Lieutenant P. Parks, Master Officer A. Salmon and Officer M. Worrell assisted.

 

On Sunday at approximately 1:15 p.m., Parks was investigating drug activity on Glover Street when he encountered a vehicle with several people inside.  

Narcotics and paraphernalia were found.  

Parks arrested and charged the following:

Marshawn Davon High, 16, of Gaston —  possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He received a $3,000 bond and March 7 court date.

Devon Rashod Johnston, 19, of Roanoke Rapids — possession of marijuana and maintaining a vehicle.

He received a $4,000 bond and March 7 court date.

Katoe Wardell Harris Jr., 19, of Roanoke Rapids — possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, fictitious information to officer and an order for arrest.

He received a $5,000 bond and March 7 court date.

Officers J. Spragins and J. Shelburne assisted.

 

On Sunday at approximately 2:30 p.m., Cross responded to a call about a motor vehicle break-in on East Tenth Street.  

The victim found a person inside their vehicle and followed him until police arrived.  

Cross arrested and charged Barry Wayne Frost, 51, of Roanoke Rapids, for breaking and entering a motor vehicle.

He received a $3,000 bond and a February 7 court date.
