Calvin Claude Woodard

Mr. Calvin Claude Woodard, 94, passed away, Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. Woodard was born December 9, 1923 in Northampton County.  

The funeral service will be conducted at Askew Funeral in Jackson, NC, officiated by the Reverend Ricky Barnes. Interment will follow at the Woodard Family Cemetery.

Mr. Woodard, a native of Northampton County, lived most of his life in the Margarettsville community.  

He was a member of the Margarettsville Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

He was a veteran of the U S Navy where he excelled and enjoyed participating in boxing.

He was an avid farmer for over 70 years and owner of Woodard Peanut Buying Station for many years.  

He was a hard-working man, who loved his hobbies of restoring old cars, taking nature walks looking for turkeys and deer, and riding the countryside watching the crops being planted, grow, and harvested.  

He especially loved and treasured his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mr. Woodard was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Woodard and Carrie Revelle Woodard, his wife, Kathleen Adams Woodard, and two children, son, Lewis Batt (L.B.) Woodard, and a daughter Peggy Benton, brothers, Lewis Woodard and Roy Woodard, sisters, Estelle Daughtry, Mary Edwards, Margaret Edwards, and Sara Plank.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Whitehead and husband, Cecil Whitehead of Margarettsville, NC, Pamela Porter and husband, Benjamin Porter of Margarettsville, NC; six grandchildren, Tina Flythe and husband Michael, Paul Flythe Jr. and wife Patricia, Kimberly Daniels and husband Tony, Kevin Whitehead and wife Beth, Renee Edwards and husband Scott, Mandy Cooke and husband James Thomas; ten great grandchildren, Alyssa Flythe, Kayla Flythe, Jessica Best, Drew Whitehead, Gavin Edwards, Carlee Edwards, Laurel Edwards, Magnus Edwards, Kylie Cooke, and Kiptyn Cooke; sisters, Mae Rose, Leneau Pope; and brother Robert Woodard; several nieces and nephews; and also a loving caregiver and special friend, Doris Gay of Margarettsville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Jackson Chapel of Askew Funeral Services. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1pm until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's or The Kidney disease foundations.
