RRPD roundup: Traffic stops lead to drug arrests

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

On Tuesday at approximately 11:50 a.m., officers M. Hunsucker and J. DeSare conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway near Old Farm Road.  

The passenger, Jermaine Lance Cotton, 26, of Roanoke Rapids, was found in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.  

Cotton was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule VI, possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of open container.

He received a $5,000 bond and April 4 court date.

The driver was charged for the motor vehicle violations.

Lieutenant J. Baggett and Sergeant D. Jenkins assisted.


On Monday at approximately 11:50 p.m., Sergeant M. Moseley conducted a traffic stop for a violation on Interstate 95 near the 173 mile marker.  

The driver, Keith Shuvez Eleazar Jr., 28, of Raleigh, was not in possession of a valid license and was reportedly in possession of marijuana.  

Moseley cited him for no operator’s license, possession of schedule VI and speeding.

He was released until his April 9 court date.
