The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief James Avens:

On Tuesday around 4:24 p.m., Sergeant L. Melton responded to the area of Maple and Ninth streets on a disturbance call.

Melton noticed a large crowd and attempted to clear the roadway.

During Melton's investigation one female hit another female.

Melton arrested Natasha Pitchford, 28, of Roanoke Rapids.

Pitchford was taken before a magistrate and charged with simple physical assault.

Pitchford received a $500 unsecured bond with an April 4 court date.

Lieutenant Chris Davis said the motive may have been related to a social media post although further details were not immediately clear.

Officer N. Coles assisted.

On Monday around 1:35 p.m., Coles conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Washington Avenue and Ninth Street for a registration plate violation.

While Coles was conducting his investigation the driver of the vehicle started to resist the officer by reportedly trying to pull away from him.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Calvin Earl Nelson, 52, of Halifax.

During the investigation Coles located a plastic bag containing 59 Hydrocodone pills inside the vehicle.

Nelson was arrested and taken before a magistrate where he was charged with fictitious registration, no insurance, possession with intent to sell and deliver Schedule II and maintaining a vehicle to sell Schedule II substance.

He received a $1,500 secured bond with a March 14 court date.

Coles was assisted by Avens and Davis.
