The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a hit and run this morning on Carolina Rest Home Road in which a sanitation worker was struck.

Trooper D.L. Edwards, who is assisting Trooper T.D. “Bo” Forsht, said the collision occurred around 7:20 this morning as the sanitation worker was getting a trash can.

A white vehicle of unknown make or model struck the worker and continued traveling. There were no signs of skid marks, Edwards said.

Witnesses said the vehicle, a compact car, was last seen heading toward Highway 903 near Three Bridges Road.

The sanitation worker was listed in critical condition, Edwards said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the highway patrol at 252-536-2224 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
