Beginning in September, Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold two regular meetings a month rather than a work session and regular city council meeting.

The meetings will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month beginning on September 3 and the next one on September 17.

The first meeting of the month will be held at 5:15 p.m. while the second meeting of the month will be held at 7 p.m.

City Manager Joseph Scherer noted in tonight's city council agenda packet the move would expedite action on items without having to wait a month between regular meetings.

In other matters tonight:

Fire Chief Stacy Coggins presented former Lieutenant David Marshall with his badge and fire helmet.

Marshall retired at the end of July after 30 years of service.
