A traffic violation stop led to seizure of crack cocaine in the Weldon area Wednesday.

Lieutenant Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a press release Agent D.C. Dickens was in the area commonly referred to as South Weldon following up on a drug complaint when he observed a vehicle leaving an area known for narcotics sales.

He stopped the vehicle for a violation and asked for consent to search.

Dickens located crack cocaine in the vehicle as well as several items of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle, Patricia Amanda Rouse, 48, of Colonial Drive, Roanoke Rapids, was arrested for possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The passenger, Dennis Ray Peebles, 54, of Hales Branch, Roanoke Rapids, was arrested for possession of cocaine.

Rouse was given a $1,000 bond and Peebles was given a $2,000 bond.
