“We thought it was like Christmas,” Chief Mark Macon said when it was discovered the tied-up bag contained nearly two pounds of marijuana and what is believed to be three Molly pills. “They threw us a freebie.”

Captain James Avens said police went to 114 Little Street around 2 p.m. to merely discuss with the residents the complaints in what he called a knock and talk. “We saw a white plastic bag flying from the back door.”

In the bag was marijuana packaged for sale in individual bags, some of it stored in a vacuum-sealed bag. Avens estimated the value to be $1,600 to $2,400.

There was no evidence to suggest marijuana was being grown at the house and both Avens and Macon believe the residence off First Street was being used for deliveries and sales.

Macon said over the last three months there had been numerous complaints of possible drug activity at the house, which was protected by a large pit bull, tethered on a run that would allow it to go in and out of the house on its own will.

That the three people arrested at the house did not live there, leads Macon to believe it is a trap house, a place dedicated solely to selling drugs.

The officers believe the marijuana in the vacuum-sealed bag was stored for ease of storage and to mask the odor.

Macon the three pills are believed to be Molly, a more pure version of ecstasy that the department believes may contain cocaine. Avens said the pills will be sent to a lab for analysis.

Macon said this was the largest marijuana bust in Weldon since he has been chief.

The three people arrested — Malcolm Edwards, 35, of Halifax; Damian Arquel Kidd, 25, of Weldon, and Marlo Ewing Price, 31 of Weldon — all face charges of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They all received $20,000 bonds and have October 2 court dates.
