Cardra Burns replaces Barbara Harris-Ellis, who resigned to take a position in Rowan County.
She holds a bachelor's degree in nutrition and food science from Georgia Southern University and masters degrees in business administration and public administration from Walden University. She is pursuing a doctorate in business administration with an emphasis on information systems from Walden.
Burns has worked in public health for more than 10 years, serving as a nutritionist with the DeKalb County Board of Health in Georgia and most recently as the WIC Program director and breastfeeding program manager in Scotland County.
She also serves as an associate faculty member with Baker College online and Ashford University online.
“We are excited to have Ms. Burns as the new health director and look forward to her bringing fresh ideas,” Patricia Peele, chair of the county health board, said in the statement.
