At least three vehicles and multiple people were involved in a Saturday night shooting outside Bobby's Supermarket in which a man was shot in the leg, Roanoke Rapids police said.

Police corrected an earlier statement on the time of the shooting from 1 a.m. to shortly after 11:30 Saturday night.

One vehicle was struck by a bullet and at least three vehicles left the scene, one described as white in color that subsequently crashed into another vehicle at Pearson Hill Road and Highway 48. The vehicle that was crashed into was not involved in the shooting, police said.

At least three occupants fled from the white vehicle. A canine track by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office followed a trail that went cold at the Shell station at Smith Church Road and Highway 48.

Another suspect vehicle was spotted at Towe Trailer Park near the South Rosemary laundry on Roanoke Avenue.

The shooting victim was treated and is in stable condition.

Police had no comment on whether they have developed persons of interest in the case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
