Popeyes has scrapped plans for a retrofit of the old Kentucky Fried Chicken building and will instead build one from the ground up, according to site plans filed with the city.

A demolition plan is included in the site plan, although the company or its representatives have not filed for a permit yet, said Kelly Lasky, Roanoke Rapids planning and development director.

The plans call for a new 2,723 square-foot building after the old one, at the intersection of Premier Boulevard and Julian R. Allsbrook Highway, is demolished.

The extra driveway into the restaurant will be closed but there will still be an entrance and exit at Julian Allsbrook and Premier Boulevard, Lasky said.
