A Roanoke Rapids man is in Vidant hospital in Greenville following a single-vehicle crash on Roanoke Avenue at Fifth Street.

Roanoke Rapids police are still investigating, but according to a preliminary report Bradley Barnes struck a traffic signal pole around 7 a.m. Sunday.

Condition updates via the social networking site Facebook say he is doing better and was scheduled to be taken off a ventilator this morning. There are no internal injuries to his lungs and chest area. The family is hoping the next surgery will save his foot, the update said.
