Garner's Nursery is in its second week of trimming holly trees on Roanoke Avenue.

There are a total of 90 trees up and down the avenue, said Public Works Director Larry Chalker.

The city went through an informal bid process and Garner's was the only one to submit a bid.

Garner's is working on the uptown section of the avenue first and afterwards the city will decide whether to continue the company's services downtown or if public works will take over, Chalker said.

Thus far, Chalker has been pleased with the company's work. “They have to be trimmed the way they are shaped. Without a doubt, Garner's has done a wonderful job. They're doing it on Sunday morning to minimize the impact on businesses.”
