City Manager Joseph Scherer confirmed to council this evening Sheetz has submitted preliminary plans to the city.

He said these plans come in the form of a demolition plan to tear down the old Ryan's building on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway to build the new Sheetz store.

No other information on the project was detailed during this evening's city council meeting.

Sheetz, an Altoona, Pennsylvania convenience store chain, confirmed to the city last month it plans to build at the location of the former Ryan's.

In an email to city Planning and Development Director Kelly Lasky, James Gerhart of the company wrote, “Sheetz has the property under agreement.”

The company noted in the email it started due diligence.

Ryan's closed last year due to underperformance.

There is no definitive construction timeline for the store, a company official said last month.

In other matters this evening:

Council was told by Parks and Recreation Director John Simeon the annual Christmas parade will be held December 8 at 2 p.m. Citizens Community Bank will again sponsor the event. Registration will start on October 1.

Council appropriated $14,995 to replace the roof at the Chaloner Bath House at the Chaloner Recreation Center pool.

Council accepted two dedicated streets — Rivers Edge Parkway and Skipping Stone Way — at Canal Walk subdivision into its system. The city was already legally responsible for these streets.
